Lack of vets in the global South
2014 WTS conducted a survey among animal welfare organisations and veterinary educational institutions in 44 emerging and developing countries. The survey showed a clear picture: All respondents criticised enormous deficits in the veterinary academic education. 50 percent of the respondents referred to the practical content of teaching and the integration of animal welfare in the veterinary curriculum as insufficient. The lack of awareness of animal welfare was also frequently deplored.
To face those deficits, WTS started the programme VETS UNITED in 2015.
