Teaching animal welfare
The National University of Asunción has five branches with Veterinary Sciences study plan. The Animal Welfare course was incorporated into the curriculum in 2019, and the course is taught in the first year. However, only two of the 14 lecturers teaching the subject have additional animal welfare training.
This project is a comprehensive initiative aimed at strengthening the knowledge, skills, and ethical commitment of lecturers in the field of animal welfare, who will then transfer it to veterinary science students.
Moreover, the current animal welfare study plan will be updated with the support of animal welfare experts, to reflect the newest scientific developments in the field.
The project focuses on two key objectives:
- To improve the teaching-learning process of Animal Welfare by supporting training through a theoretical and practical course for lecturers of the animal welfare subject and other subjects, dictated by external experts chosen by the faculty.
- Updating the current animal welfare course syllabus to reflect the field developments.
