News from the projects

The College of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Sciences (UR CVAS) at University of Rwanda trains the next generation of veterinarians and animal scientists.

To meet standards for animal welfare and ethics education among its academic staff, the VETS UNITED program has provided financial and administrative support to launch the VETS UNITED University of Rwanda Capacity Development Project.

This initiative aims to enhance the quality of animal health and welfare education by improving knowledge, building practical skills, and increasing awareness of animal welfare. It will also give academic staff access to the comprehensive VETS UNITED Animal Welfare Teaching Modules, an educational resource designed to raise the standards of animal health and welfare education across the board.

Universities Network

Animal welfare is becoming an increasingly prominent topic on the African continent as it seeks to align with global trends in ethical treatment, care, and protection of animals. Recognising animals as sentient beings and promoting their welfare is a growing priority. Universities and colleges, as centers of learning and innovation, are uniquely positioned to play a transformative role in advancing animal welfare.
